15th June, 1960, proved to be a red letter day in the life of the Gujarat University. It was on that day that the Sardar Vallabhbhai Arts and Commerce College opened within the Walled city of Ahmedabad. For the first time the concept of "Earning and Learning" was accepted and students walked in for admission. This was the beginning of and also the foundation for the starting of a galaxy of other institutions under the umbrella of the Sardard Parivar, where even today the S.V. Arts College is high in the choice of students working to learn and at the same time pay for Late. Shri Chimanbhai Patel, former Chief Minister of Gujarat State was the founder Principal here who nurtured this institution bringing in committed and highly qualified faculty to teach and guide his students.
Today Prin. (Dr.) J.S. Chaudhri occupied the Principal Chair, An alumnus of this Prin. Chaudhari feels rightly honoured to take this chair and work for the institution he studied in. Prin. Chaudhri is active in N.C.C. where his rank is that of a captain. Under him a very active N.C.C. unit functions in the college. Prin. Chaudhari had the honour to represent Gujarat at the Republic day parade in New Delhi. He has guided and trained many cadets to achieve this honour.Under Prin. Chaudhari this college looks forward to move ahead in the education filed adapting itself to whatever changes that may come in future.
