Passing the S.S.C.E, entering a college, studying there and becoming a graduate, was during the early and late-fifties, a distant dream for the youth living in the walled city of
Ahmedabad. Colleges were there-all day and full-time colleges which were beyond the reach of many as they were siruated on the western side of the city. Time distance and means were the roadblock
for them as was at this juncture that late shri Chimanbhai Patel (former Chief Minister of Gujarat) brought forth the concept of Earning While Learning. The result of this was establishing of morning
colleges without in any way compromising in quality of faculty, time taken and standard of teaching.
It is this thought process that gave birth to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Arts and Commerce College which established itself in the middle of the walled city on the eastern side of Ahmedabad. This was just the beginning
and today after having gone through many ups and downs, the Sardar Group of College (S .V. Arts College, S.V. Commerce College, S.V. Vanijya Mahavidyalay, Saraspur Arts & Commerce College, Motilal Nehru Law
College and (Post Graduate Centers) stands tall in the middle of Ahmedabad City.
